Lea Stein is internationally known for her whimsical designs made from a unique process of laminated rhodoid (a material which her husband invented). Lea Stein started her company in 1969 and designed rings, bangles, earrings and brooches. Her figural subjects ranged from Birds, Cats, Children, Dogs, Eyes, Elvis Presley look-a-likes, Hats, Hearts, Insects, Portraits and Flowers. Although her designs sold well in France, it was only when the company closed in 1981 that she became popular overseas, when a dealer brought the majority of her remaining stock, and started selling in America. By 1988 her jewellery was in such high demand that she started designing again and continues to do so today.
